Our Easter Photoshoot: A Lesson in Letting Go & Grabbing the Moment

Easter this year came with a lot of hopes and... a lot of rain. For two weeks, I had this sweet little Easter photoshoot in mind—something soft, springy, full of color, and joy. I’d planned it all out in my head, but the weather just wasn’t playing along. Every time I thought, “This is the day!”—the clouds would roll in, and down came the rain again.

But then, finally, we caught a small break. Not a full day of sunshine—oh no, nothing that generous. Just a tiny window with no rain. The grass was still wet, the skies still moody, but I knew it was now or never. I called out to my boys and reached out to two dear friends who live nearby, and somehow, miraculously, everyone got their little ones ready in record time.

It was chaotic, fast, and yes—we were racing the next round of drizzle. But oh my heart, it was so worth it.

No, it wasn’t the picture-perfect shoot I’d been envisioning for two weeks. It wasn’t slow or serene or styled down to every last detail. But it was real, spontaneous, joy-filled—and the kind of memory we’ll laugh about and cherish for years.

What this day reminded me is something I think we all need to hear now and then:
Sometimes, our big, beautiful plans don’t work out. Life doesn’t always hand us the perfect weather, the perfect timing, or the perfect conditions. But that doesn’t mean we give up. It just means we shift, adapt, and do the best we can with what we have.

Because doing something—anything—with heart and joy is always better than doing nothing at all.
Even when it’s a bit soggy.
Even when it’s rushed.
Even when it doesn’t look exactly like we pictured it.

Every moment carries a lesson, and this one whispered: Grab the moment, even if it’s just a messy little window between the rains. You might be surprised by how beautiful it turns out.

There are places that don’t just look beautiful — they change the way you carry yourself. Palácio de Estoi is one of them. It starts quietly: the elegance of the palace in the background, the soft geometry of the surroundings, the feeling that everything has been designed with intention. But what truly transforms the experience are the details you find along the way. The azulejos, with their intricate blue patterns, catch your eye and slow you down. They feel timeless — like something from another story, another era, where everything was a little more graceful. The staircases invite you to pause for a moment longer than you normally would, just to feel how it is to move through a space that feels almost cinematic. And in that atmosphere, something shifts. You don’t need a crown to feel like a princess. You just need the right setting that lets you remember she’s already there inside you. A photoshoot here isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about stepping into a version of yourself that usually has no time to come forward — the one that enjoys being looked at, that softens into elegance, that feels beautiful without needing a reason. The palace itself is worth the visit, of course. It carries history, detail, and presence in every corner. But the real experience is what it does to you while you’re there. It gives you permission. Permission to slow down. To feel seen. To exist in a space where everything around you already feels royal — and suddenly, so do you. Because sometimes, being a princess for a day isn’t about fantasy. It’s about remembering how it feels to be treated like one — even if just for a little escape.
